[The Guide turns itself on as it drops and clatters across the floor. The video feed bounces and finally comes to a stop not far from the bare feet of a young boy. He looks worried. No, more than worried -- completely bewildered. His eyes, wide open, are a bright shade of green. His red hair's cropped short in a messy style that will never be popular. He's wearing a shirt that's way too big for him, but it seems the least of his concerns right now. He's just found himself in an unfamiliar place with no one he knows around and no apparent way out.]
Guy...? GUY!! Hey! Cut it out, okay? This isn't funny at all!
[He tries calling down the hallways again - this time for others. No maids appear. No white knights. He calls out a third time, more tentatively.] ...I know you can hear me! Pere? Ramdas?!
[Nothing. He runs through a few more names, including calling out for his mother and father. It's clear he's running low on his list of acquaintances, and running low on the hope of receiving an answer, too.] ...Na-natalia...? Master Van? Tch...! This doesn't make sense. Have I been kidnapped?
[A few minutes pass, and finally the boy sets his jaw and picks up the dropped Guide. There's no time for crying. As someone important to Kimlasca, it's his duty to find everyone and get to the bottom of things.]
[That's when he pays closer attention to the Guide itself. It looks a little like one of the fon machines he saw in Belkend once -- it was able to record and play back voices. Well, it's more advanced than the other machine was; it even has words and pictures. He decides to give it a try, fumbling with the electronic book, trying to get something to work. He doesn't seem to realize it's been recording the whole time.]
