Hm...Have you tried putting something that he won't like the taste of on it, that you can't see? Perhaps something like nail gloss?

I'm not messing it up more than it already is. Besides, it's made of metal and a rock. It shouldn't taste good in the first place.

Ah, well, just a suggestion-but I think I read somewhere once that dinosaurs liked to swallow things like that to help digestion, so it might be best to get a solution quickly.
