When the two finally met, they instantly fell in love, and were married soon after. They were happy, enjoying themselves and being together in everything they did. It was a wonderful time for them. But because of this, Orihime stopped weaving, and Hikoboshi let his cattle roam all over the fields and ignored them. The king grew angry at the two, insisting they had forgotten about their work, and separated them, using the galaxy as the barrier to keep them from being together. Orihime cried and begged her father to let her see Hikoboshi, and he was moved by her tears. He agreed to let them meet on the seventh day of the seventh month, once a year.
We celebrate their meeting again, because we know it's a time when they were happy. Usually, we pray the day is bright and sunny, and doesn't rain. If the rain comes, they cannot see each other for a whole year, so many of us write wishes to make sure the two lovers meet again.
