[The Guide flicks on to reveal two people standing in front of an old woman. Candy hangs in loops around Grandma Syzzlak's neck and wrists and each of her twenty fingers is accented by a Ring Lolli. The room is spacious, occupied by a wide variety of strange contraptions and cooking utensils. Along one wall there are five vats filled with a

But do we really need to keep them entertained?

[Asch tries his best to ignore the onlookers and takes a firm hold of the rim, finding it heavier than its small size would have led him to believe.]
...Wonder what they put in here.
Reply
[He assists him-- yeah, it is surprisingly heavy, isn't taffy supposed to be lighter than this?]
No idea. [The "Let's Try Some" idea may not work right now, thanks to his hands being tied.]
Reply
[Grunts as he hoists his end so they can pour it out to cool. Maybe he's gotten weak.]
Cement is my guess.
[Tipping now.]
Reply
[If there's none left, they didn't waste it.]
[He assists in the tipping to the best of his ability. Thing really was surprisingly heavy. Maybe it was supposed to get lighter after it's been on the slabs and been pulled.]
Reply
[And the taffy pours ever so slowly onto the slab and begins to cool and solidify as it makes contact.]
[Hopefully the rest won't be quite that challenging to lift. Asch eyes the taffy hooks as he waits for the substance to finish oozing out.]
You know anything about taffy?
[Asch might know a thing or two about cooking, but he didn't deal in desserts and snacks.]
Reply
[He glances down to watch the taffy solidify, dumping it out. Must have been a lot of taffy in there.]
None at all. Never seen anyone make it before.
Reply
[Or was it just because of the food?]
[Asch makes sure the nearest hook is tightly secured and returns to the taffy which should be ready for pulling. Only it is hardly pliable.]
Reply
[CORRECT! Plus, otherwise he'd be stealing food from everyone else.]
[Ranma assists, before noticing how rigid the taffy is.] Huh, is it usually s'posed to be like this?
Reply
[Asch couldn't really argue - he'd taken two jobs to earn money more swiftly, and this one in particular because it had sounded like something he could manage that wouldn't stick him in the middle of a crowd.]
[Asch glances over at Ranma, then tries again, pulling at the candy viciously and putting his back into it.]
I can't-- ...imagine it's supposed to be this stiff unless aliens have especially strong teeth.
Reply
[Or so he thought. He attempts pulling too, gripping on as tight as he possibly can.] Ngh-- must be. Mine would shatter if I even tried!
Reply
[He wanted to suggest that someone must have miscalculated the ingredients, but he knew better than to voice this possibility out loud.]
Ugh! Fine! Pull the other end as hard as you possibly can! There's no way it can stand up to an all-out attack from both sides.
[Are we talking a monster or taffy now? No idea.]
Reply
[Unless it stuck on his hand right before. At the least he could crack it down the middle.]
Right! It won't get the best of me!
[Probably both, at this point.]
Reply
[Pulling, pulling now.]
Rrrrgh!
[Oh wait, it's giving. Slowly. Not so slow. Faster.]
Reply
[It took a while, but he's pulling hard, grunting as well. At least by now it's starting to give way, even if he wasn't exactly interested in trying it anymore.]
Reply
Maybe... you should try it - but only if you think you can manage without taffy flying everywhere. ...This is no ordinary enemy.
[Asch glanced at the scissors and then to the remaining vats of taffy.]
I'm going to go hunt down a butcher's knife. I think it'd do the job more effectively than those scissors ever could.
