Botan rushes down to be their trainer (she claims she's a licensed trainer, too, god knows) and Kurama goes on to the next fight. His opponent, however, decides to play dirty by threatening his human mother's life if he fights back. Kurama, not being a total idiot, tricks him into sealing his own fate and he explodes in flowers (yes, really) so now Hiei's next. He takes out his opponent with the Dragon of the Darkness Flame, which severely damages his arm. Then the funny drunk character with an inexplicable Australian accent comes in and Yusuke just decides to wake up. His name is Chu and he actually gives Yusuke a tough time in the fight, which horrifies Keiko but makes her realize Something Important about Yusuke. Well of course Yusuke wins.
Also in the next match the Masked Fighter is revealed to be a young woman, much to the confusion of Yusuke and Kuwabara who thought it was Genkai (though it doesn't sound like her. It's actually because her technique regresses her back to an age where she was in peak physical condition.)
From then on it's a game of run around as the tournament committee makes decisions that put Yusuke's team at a disadvantage and they all have to struggle with their respective weaknesses before meeting up with Toguro's team. After fighting against Dr. Ichigaki's team (which, again, causes Botan to run out of the audience and down to where everyone else is) they immediately have to fight again after being all battered. Kuwabara asks Botan to take him back to everyone else and she carries him back. The third match is highlighted by a nurse trapping Genkai and Hiei behind a force field so they can't participate. Kurama fights the first match against a demon who binds him with magical face paint and it immediately segues into the next match with Toyo, a ninja shinobi. Kurama can't move, so it's a little dicey. He defeats Toyo by implanting his plants into his own body for use as a weapon buuut that kind of leaves him. Asleep on his feet. He is then beaten on until his opponent realizes that Yusuke kind of has a lot of murderous intent inside of him. Yusuke beats him down. Now it's time for Yusuke to fight Lucky the Leprechaun Jin the wind master…iiiit's a narrow win for him and actually he's disqualified on a technicality. But hey he used the spirit wave finally. But since he's disqualified, Kuwabara then has to fight, he's losing at first but moral support from Yukina wins the day.
After this Genaki reveals herself and begins the final test of Yusuke's training, WHICH IS AGONIZING TO HIM. He's left alone in a little cave with only his spirit beast (the adorable Puu) to accompany him and a ball of spirit energy inside of him which could very well tear him apart. Meanwhile the semi-finals are starting; Hiei does well in the first match, but the next match is a little…erm, difficult, he has to use the Dragon again to dispatch his enemy. Kurama fights next and…is reverted back to his demon form by way of a box that sends people back in age. Which is bad but also good, surprisingly Shishiwakamaru kills his opponent before he can answer any of Yoko's questions about the box. Kuwabara fights Shishiwakamaru next and is sent through a magical cape that sends him outside of the ring, then Genkai fights him and wins with some difficulty. Then the leader, Onji, reveals himself to be…a clown. That calls himself The Beautiful Suzuka. He looks down on Genkai for being old and decrepit but Genkai beats him without any trouble whatsoever.
