Botan then conjures up her oar and starts…floating right in front of him, saying that she's pleased to meet him and that she's been watching him for a while and is impressed with his actions. Which understandably freaks Kuwabara out and makes him think she's a witch, but Yusuke says "oh don't be such a dope, she's not a witch she's the Grim Reaper!" because that's so much better He then explains that she's his assistant as the spirit detective and that they're tracking down a demon named Rando. So now Kuwabara is in on the mission, sharing such words of wisdom like agreeing that the mission sounds tough but the most important thing is that Yusuke isn't cheating on Keiko with Botan. Then he…proposes to Botan. Which confuses her. But Genkai breaks up their little love fest by saying they'll be disqualified if they don't get back in there and Botan rushes along with them. Apparently Genkai overheard them talking about the spirit detective thing and is amused that she attracted celebrities. Next match is the two joke characters, which leads to Shorin (the tiniest one) winning. Which is suspicious to Koenma plotplotplotforeshadowingforeshadowingforeshadowing. Kuwabara is next against Musashi, which worries Botan that he might be mismatched but Kuwabara conjures up a spirit sword out of the broken tip of Musashi's wooden sword and wins.
Now we finally get to Yusuke's first match versus Kobano. Yusuke is cocky as always, which ticks off Genaki and he gets her cigarette tossed at him. The match starts and Kobano reveals that he has a special helmet that allows him to compensate for his lack of spiritual awareness, which allows him to see where Yusuke is by his spirit energy. Yusuke is having a tough time with the fight and Kuwabara finds the use of the helmet unfair while Botan shows concern about how Yusuke is going to get out of his situation this time. If you guessed it's because of a spontaneous plan that caused him to luck out, you'd be right. Yusuke grabs the cigarette Genaki threw away and sticks it on Kobano's belt so he could find and shoot a spirit gun at him. Yusuke explains the spirit gun to Kuwabara and Kuwabara expresses concern that they're cheating with their possessions of a gun and a sword, to which Botan says he should just think of them as extensions of themselves. Next match? Kazemaru and Yusuke. Yusuke, naturally, protests having just finished a hard fight but Genkai moves the fight outside and Botan reminds Yusuke that one of the remaining fighters (I.E.: Shorin and Kazemaru) could be Rando.
All seems hopeless for Yusuke again as Kazemaru employs the use of exploding shuriken that can trace Yusuke's spirit energy. So Yusuke decides to do a suicide attack against Kazemaru, but abruptly vanishes causing the shuriken to explode on Kazemaru and defeat him. Much to the confusion of Kuwabara and Botan, but Our (exceedingly lucky) Hero pops up from a sinkhole and is bemused by what happened. By order of elimination, Shorin is Rando and Kuwabara is fighting against him next. Botan notes that it's ironic Shorin turned out to be Rando as he was last on her list of suspects (apparently she doesn't know the true meaning of stealth), they're both worried about Rick Astley Kuwabara and try to warn him, but he doesn't want to listen. Botan tries to break them up, but fails obviously because who wants to listen to a Grim Reaper-lite when you're in junior high. Rando plays with Kuwabara for a bit by pretending to be at a disadvantage. This leads Botan and Yusuke to wonder if Rando wasn't really Shorin after all and maybe he was beaten early on. Shorin starts to reveal techniques that set off Genkai's suspicion, but it still seems like Kuwabara has Shorin beat. Yusuke starts to believe that Kuwabara could beat Shorin, which Botan hesitantly agrees to, but Shorin's new technique…shrinks Kuwabara down. Which sets off Genkai's suspicion again.
