[The feed flickers on, and there's a new arrival staring at the screen. He's quiet for a moment, as if he's gathering up all the proper words that he needs to address this device, then speaks in a controlled yet casual manner.]Yggdrasil either has longer branches than anyone has had the pleasure to know, or I now somehow lie beyond its reach. [He does not expect everyone to know what he's referring to, but his response is simple nonetheless.]

The world tree. All that I knew.

It's completely preposterous.

I agree, it is a terrible name. [Whether or not that's what you were referring to doesn't seem to matter.]

Doesn't make sense to have alien spacecraft named after human myth. It's obsolete, just stories from earth-that-was.

[He tilts his head just slightly, looking down at the feed with a raised brow. Hearing this did not surprise him, but it was always rather amusing. It still is, even out here in the far reaches of space.]

Are they? If that is the case, they are stories that resonate. Why else use such a name? Though I'll admit there's little accounting for taste.

What's wrong with the name 'Thor'?

Nothing, save for reeking of arrogance and thick-headedness. [Wow, he managed to utter those words without terribly too much poison.]

[His lips quirk a little, even.] That, and the ship is shaped like a turtle.

Well, yeah, most of the aliens around here more or less act like that...

...I never got the turtle thing, though.

Is that so? Then I take it back; perhaps it's a fitting name. Nonetheless, is there a reason for their arrogance?

[He seems amused at the whole turtle thing, like it's some kind of private joke that only he would get.] It doesn't necessarily invoke the imagery of great and terrible thunder.

Unfortunately it's not a prank.

You're familiar with the world tree?

No? It has all the trappings of one.

I am. Or rather I thought I was - I wasn't under the impression it was so easily destroyed.

[He's frowning at that possibility.]

I doubt Heaven could have been destroyed either. But whatever might have happened, it is out of my reach for the moment. I imagine it will be the same for you.

[Heaven. He can't help but question this man now.]

Now you have me curious, being so quick to draw parallels between us both. You are...?

No. As much as I wish it were, this is definitely not an elaborate prank.

And how can you be so certain? The best of pranks are often ones that no one notices until it's far too late.

Because here we are, still stuck here doing the worst jobs anyone can imagine while tolerating the Vogons and everyone else on the ship.

But, if it is really a prank, then whoever pulled it got all of us really good and deserves an award.

I agree. I am almost green with envy. [Except he isn't; he's both amused and inconvenienced and lost.]

I've heard of these jobs; are they so terrible?
