[The feed clicks on, Polly's Guide having been bumped while she rummaged in her backpack for a notebook.]

I don't really need to take notes, sir, I'm good at remem--

[She is interrupted by a reedy voice in a decidedly supercilious tone.]

You'll want the notes, sweetie, trust me. Golden Moments Weddings and Events has a reputation to keep up as ( Read more... )

I guess it's a girl who's getting married.

[Polly looks around at the racks and racks of floofy white confections of silk and tulle and lace. With a very deep frown she absently adds:]

She's supposed to wear white.

Oh. Some human custom?

[Sniffing the screen now she can get a better look]

Well that's definitely a lot of white. No matter how much that male you were talking to tries to bullshit otherwise.

[Polly nods.]

And I guess other planets too. My people never did it--Mother said it wasn't wise to promise anyone forever.

[She brightens.]

I thought so too! I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Why would anyone want to do that?

[Forever's a long time. Besides, the only adults she knows are the ones who are off away fighting and thus not raising the troll kids]

Nope. Whole lot of vanilla milkshake right there. Well.

[And here she licks the screen]

Near enough as to be all the same anyway.

I guess, sometimes, when people love each other, they just do.

[Polly blinks, tilting her head at this. She's never seen anyone lick the screen, before...]

Vanilla milkshake?

You mean... you can taste the colors...?

Yep. That's how I see things. Normally I don't need to actually taste things but by smell they're all identical so I wanted to see if I could pick up on the differences.

That's amazing! I've never met anybody who could do that before!

... [She considers the possibilities of this for a moment.]

It must've been awful, when you met the Vogons...

Well, I'm the only one I know who can do it, too. But I think it's only something trolls can do.

[she shrugs at that]

It wasn't pleasant. But I've dealt with worse.

What do other things taste like?

[She blinks, a new thought occurring.]

Do... Do I taste like something...?

Well, most humans tend to taste mostly the same. But-

[She takes another long sniff and then licks the screen again for good measure]

Gingerbread. Definitely gingerbread.

Oh, I'm not a human, I'm--

[Before she can elaborate, Terezi's prognosis registers, and she smiles.]

I had gingerbread, once! It was really good!

[She tilts her head thoughtfully.]

What do you taste like, then?

[ooc: For any other two characters, this conversation would be very... very... awkward. :-|]

[ooc: Yes, yes it would. Polly wins points just for the fact that it isn't]

Then I suppose it's a good thing for you to taste of...and smell of.

[Ooh, interesting question. She pauses a moment then licks the back of her hand]

Not much. Really, teal's not a very exciting colour. But maybe that's because I already know what I look like.

[Which technically should apply to the others too but then since when has she ever made sense?]

[She tilts her head.]

I dunno, I think it's pretty!

[She regards Terezi with grave contemplation, thinking of Kiriko.]

Is it hard, not being able to use your eyes..?

[She grins]

Well obviously, it's an awesome colour. It's just not very exciting.

[And a nonchalant shrug at that question]

It was, at first. Before my lusus taught me how to use taste and smell instead. Now it's pretty much the best thing that ever happened to me.

[And she doesn't sound like she's joking]

[She brightens, somewhat heartened by this.]

But what's a lusus?
