017. [accidental video]

[Have a relatively boring shot of someone's living area. Obviously the guide is not meant to be on. Nothing new there.

Near the back, you can see an area that transitions to what seems to be the kitchen. For a few seconds, there's nothing.

And then there's smoke.

And then there's a lot of smoke. Is the kitchen on fire? Hard to tell from this ( Read more... )

Y-yo, are you alright?! You shouldn't go back in if something's on fire!

[The feed cuts back on mid-cough... but everything seems to be taken care of. At least, one would assume so, since Sherlock doesn't appear to be burnt to a crisp.]

Should I just let the kitchen burn down, then? Yes, there's a happy thought, especially if you share it with my flatmates. [sarcasm.]

[ He clicks his tongue against the rough of his mouth. Lovely reply. ]

Dear me. I can assume it isn't your night to wash dishes, huh?

It was a small fire.

[By default, Sherlock isn't the most charming creature. It's even worse when he's irritated.]

Is it ever? I avoid mundane tasks, though I seem to be forced into them since I arrived on the ship. Case in point: blood pudding.

[ Shiro would spare him a lecture on how small fires could become quite an unruly blaze. He’s quite used to the ‘less than charming’ personality type: he spent a great deal of his lifetime as an exorcist. …He’s also the father of teenage sons, one of which often had a surly disposition.

Instead, this elder man lifted an eyebrow, a tad bit puzzled by the reply. ]

Blood pudding? It’d be less of a fuss to just buy that at the supermarket. Ah, but--there’s not much more boring than swing by the corner store to pick something up.

[ He shifts his attention toward the background. Goodness, wasn’t that a lot of smoke? After looking back, ]

You might want to reconsider your dessert plan.

Yes, well. Buying it at the supermarket tends to defeat the material point. That point being my apparent 'job' as a Cooking Instructor.

[Sherlock speaks dryly and blandly, as what seems to be his habit.]

[Bah, smoke. Smoke means there is progress being made.]

Dessert? Haven't made it to that point just yet.

[ …Progress being made toward a 5 alarm fire. ]

You were dealt into that subject at random? Harsh.

[ Shiro has yet to experience the glitches of this ship’s job placement system, but for some time he worked as an instructor. Some of his colleagues were shuffled into teaching a subject in which they had no expertise. He uses his thumb to nudge the frame of his lens, correcting how the glasses sat on the bridge of his nose. Along with a grin, he suggests: ]

Go with roasting some marshmallows for dessert.

[ Half the work is done! ]

[If you want to be pessimistic about it, maybe.]

That does seem to be the habit here. Are you new? Or just oblivious to the 'fun' a malfunctioning guide likes to have with us?

[A flicker across Sherlock's expression might reveal that he actually considers it, but then he dismisses the idea just as quickly.]

I don't think that particular activity requires an instructor.

I’m new and completely oblivious!

[ Shiro grins while admitting this, rather unshaken by this strange new world he found himself in. It’s quite bizarre that he’s even alive, without factoring in the whole post-destruction abduction into the equation. ]

Ah, that’s right… most people can figure that out easily.

[ His eyes lower for a moment as he thinks. Only a few moments pass before he sighs audibly, a bit defeated. ]

It’s a shame the boy’s not around, [ Shiro looks away from the camera, leaning back to see if Rin was somewhere within earshot. After looking around at his surroundings, he’d look back to the camera. ] He’s really into cooking. Self-taught, at that! … He’s whipped up some foreign desserts for us before. I can’t recall the names, but they were delicious.

[He responds with a quip, almost automatically] The 'new' part wears off eventually. As for 'oblivious', that remains to be seen.

The boy? Someone from your world, I take it?

That's right, I arrived here with my son. [ Shiro sat at ease back in his chair. ] I suppose he's out trying to find himself work now.

Count yourself lucky, then. You're one of the few that arrived with family.

[he pauses.]

Not that I would wish anything of the sort upon myself.

[ Shiro considers himself immensely fortunate, even if his younger son doesn't appear to be aboard. No stranger to tales of domestic unrest, he simply smiles, ]

Well, well. Even if you're no ace in the kitchen, you're doing well on your own without any of your family, right? You look a tad bit undernourished, though!

Indeed am I, but that's nothing new. I've done well without my family for awhile now, I'd like to think.

[He looks quizzical at the undernourished part.] I eat when my body requires it. That's all that's necessary.
