Really? Dairon's one of the bigger settlements, from what I understood...

But I've never heard of Whale Island either! You have a large guild headquarters there? It connected to the cable network?

Whale Island's pretty small, so it's not a surprise. There's nothing there, though...I had to leave to take the Exam.

"Exam"? Is that what they call your trial mission in your parts? We never lack for those in Dairon! My apprentice ended up facing off against a dragon on their first solo mission.

What was yours like?

Trial mission? It's not really a trial...the Exam is what you take to get your license. Mine was pretty tough! We had to run for miles in an underground tunnel, make something called sushi, collect spider-eagle eggs, steal other examinee's badges to cut the number of candidates, survive a labyrinth, and then fight in a tournament!

...I'm thinking maybe you're a different sort of Hunter than I am. Our Hunters compete against one another, but it's in completing assignments and missions, not fighting against one another. The more missions we complete, the higher our ranking goes. That's how we compete.

Hunters where I come from fight monsters and investigate ruins, mostly. Or help find non-toxic environments where people can settle. What do they do in your neck of the woods?

I think you're right.

Hunters do all kinds of things where I come from! There are hunters who do things like you mentioned, and a lot of them specialize in one or two things that don't have anything to do with fighting, like gourmet hunters.

Yup! Though I guess some of the really rare and exotic ingredients can be pretty tricky to get.
