[The following voice message is delivered in short, sharply enunciated tones; the speaker is livid and tightly restraining his anger. He also may sound like the sort of person who is perfectly capable of carrying through with his promise, vague though it may be:]Dante was a twit and a hack, but he did get a few things right ( Read more... )

How so?

Well, that is a great claim to be able to exceed the punishments of hell.

Not particularly, when you consider the majority of the demons in charge are severely lacking in imagination.

They sound like slackers that need to be punished.

That's an interesting way to look at it.

If those under me were inefficient in the punishments declared that's what I would do. If they continued to be worthless in their jobs I would get replacements.

That sort of defeats the purpose of Hell though, doesn't it? To blame a demon is to say you are not at fault.

Free will is free will. Demons don't make anyone do anything they wouldn't have done on their own. They're just an excuse people use when they're made to take responsibility for what they've done.

Of course not. People are always responsible for their own actions, and the only way to atone for those is to accept them and repent. After of course being appropriately punished.

...Right. And that's the purpose of Hell.

Indeed, indeed. It's always when something is removed that you start to truly miss it.

May I ask what it was that was stolen?

Depends on what it is that's gone.

Several religious texts belonging to an associate of mine. They're quite old, and valuable in the right circles...though I'm fairly certain those circles were destroyed with our planet.
