[Despite all the paper pushing she did within OZ and Preventer, Une's image appears flustered following her first encounter with Vogon bureaucracy. It's not exactly easy filling out forms after being casually told everyone you know is now dead. Still, dwelling on it would only lead to emotional incapacity and, if she has any hope of rebuilding ( Read more... )

[She's already run into hulking alien bureaucrats so, surely, she's desensitized enough to maintain some sense of formality for any creature who would deign to answer her plea. Besides, it's not as if she's still insecure about her mental state. No, not in denial. She's not losing her mind again for sure. It's the universe that's losing its sanity, not her.]

This place is new to me but it wouldn't do to pose "everything" as a question, would it? I'm not certain where to begin.

[Because she's likely to just get 42 as an answer, right?]

I guess the basics are a good place to start. You're on a space station called Thor, apparently it's purpose is to pick up refugees from planets that have been destroyed. I take it the Vogons filled you in on that much?

Yes, those...

[What is she supposed to call them? Men? Creatures? Aliens? Things? She decides to refer to them in the manner that the fox has.]

...Vogons told me as much.

I apologize but I didn't catch your name. Mister?

If that's so, you're certainly not alone here. We've all failed and lost something in one way or another.

Misery loves company.

[She manages a bitter smirk.]

Though I would prefer if it didn't. Widespread suffering is hardly desirable. I don't wish to dwell on my loss. Moving forward is always the best course of action though it must be done only when one is sufficiently able, and I perceive myself as such.

I am sorry for your loss.

Don't take all the credit, now. [Sarcastic drawl.]

[She knows that face and voice. Sighing, she cautions herself to be calm. Gundam pilots are tricky creatures. In her history of speaking to them, reactions have varied from self-destruction to wanting to work for her.]

Heero Yuy.

[She does a quick recall of her files. Yes, this one is the Heero Yuy who was briefly known as Duo Maxwell.]

You failed as well. Was that what you wished to hear?

No point in dancing around the obvious.

Have you ascertained the situation?

I've received the customary briefing. That is as far as my knowledge extends thus far.

I don't believe that it's even remotely your fault, miss.

[This voice is unfamiliar to her but she decides to address it anyway.]

As Preventer's leader, it was my job to keep the Earth Sphere safe. To use nautical terms, I was the captain and Earth could be perceived as my ship. For me to live while it no longer exists is an aberration.

A rather harsh view of it, if you ask me. The Earth Sphere is awful big for only one person to 'captain,' so to hold yourself responsible for the entirety of the matter is almost ridiculous.

I think they call it survivor's guilt.

[She sighs, knowing just how stupid she's starting to sound. She's felt this way before: at the end of the First Eve War.]

Pardon my mental state. I will rectify it in due time.

It isn't a failing on your part, Lady Une. It seems no one from the earth sphere was able to stop the disaster.

And even if this reason behind it is grim, I'm pleased to see that you're alright.

Your Majesty.

[She manages a meager bow to the image on her guide. She knows Miss Relena no longer wishes to be referred to as Queen but it's a habit Une has fallen into despite the girl's protests.]

I am glad to see that you are safe.

You know full well I'm no longer a queen of anything.

Do you need any help getting settled in? I've been here for several months so I've become used to the way the ship operates.

My apologies, Minister Darlian.

I wouldn't wish to impose upon you.
