I do not understand why people seek the truth if they do not wish to hear the it. Disregarding that, I might need some advice on how to keep a mortal.

Because they expect it's going to be something nice.

The truth is rarely pleasant.

You don't need to tell me that. But it still appeals to a lot of people.

Why do you think that is?

It liberates.

Oh, that's good. I hadn't thought of that. If anything, I was thinking it was the impression of strength and stability it has.

Doesn't something like "truth" sound like something that isn't easily broken?

It is strong but merciless. And easily twisted. He should know, only being able to speak the truth and all.

People like to forget about things like that, and focus only on the good.

I'm assuming this is about new arrivals like myself?

It is easy to view the world by dividing it into shades of light and darkness.

Partly. My 'job' this month was to let people know about their chances.

Shades, hm? That's better than only seeing one or the other. Someone in either extreme can be annoying.

Their chances?

One of those extremes is my territory.

Yes.

Is that so? Mind if I ask which?

Sorry, I meant to ask their chances of what.

The dark one.

Various things. Winning games. Battles. Going home. Whatever they thought of.

Hm. I don't know if I'm surprised or not. I am surprised to meet someone who can claim either as their territory, though.

I see. That sounds like a job that would get old pretty fast. But how did you figure their chances?

It may be because I am a god and one of the three.

It was okay. I tried to say them.

That would explain it. I've never met a god before, either.

[Nor did she ever think they existed in the first place. Then again, religion of any kind wasn't a central part of her life.]

At any rate, you had a question about keeping a mortal?

There are some gods here. No other of my kind, though.

[No worries, Hades couldn't care any less if somebody beliefs in him or not.]

That I had. One was left with me and refuses to leave.
