[Yes, that is a piece of paper you are looking at instead of someone's face - a somewhat crinkled piece of paper with faint traces of lead. The fingertips he's using to hold it up are not captured by the Guide's frame, but you can see the slight indent on the surface near the video's edges. Before the cute bunny now drawn on its lower right-hand corner was scribbled and inked, he had a few, less flattering images drawn there, and since he wasn't in the mood to get a fresh sheet he just erased everything else.
Wrinkled, slightly stained paper with a few damaged fibers from the use of cheap erasers. Just the way he liked it. (Pretend that the "ni" in the dialogue bubble is a heart because I got too lazy to edit it now. |D)
