Lots of changes in my life have made scheduling difficult, but since the arbitrary time barrier of the New Year has come, it's time to set some short term goals for the next 12 months.
Had a kid recently, that's a big change. It sets all new priorities. Spent the first 3 months just trying to figure out how to finish my work in a reasonable amount of time. Working at a growing company, you often need more than 8 hours a day to get your stuff done. Otherwise you're just falling further and further behind. I worked at home, but now I get home to my second job of feeding, changing and playing with child. So I've got to find a way to finish my work in an 8 or 9 hour block. No more 10/12 hour days.
Stayed out of the gym, because mornings were difficult. I used to go early in the morning. I wanted to try for lunch but work obligations get in the way often. I often don't eat lunch until 2 or 3pm. With the child, I've found my new workout time. 10:30pm. They say you shouldn't workout late because it affects your sleep. But I find that is only if you sleep like a non-parent. I'm lucky to be asleep by 1:30am and that's not by choice.
So I hit the gym like everyone else trying to get a start on the New Year. Gym is surprisingly sparse at 10pm. Easing my way into it by doing simple cardio and light weights. Of course it was all derailed by a cold I picked up before the weekend. Weekends are so precious and short now. Waking up Saturday morning with a sore throat is like waking up Christmas morning to find the tree and presents all gone. Just kick me in the nuts, that'll feel better.
Here's to a New Year!
