well after all of this time im doing a journal update..holy shit..so anyway lately i've been working on recording the fourth cd for my band (if you fools havent realized it's ninety minute reflex) and trying to figgure out how i want shit to sound since im the geek in the band. well one of my favorite ways to get ideas is to listen to a shitload of cd's and get ideas for production. for instance (and this may sound odd) when i was 15 i bought coc's "deliverance" and immediatly realized that this was a different sound. for example, all of the guitars have so much body that you can actually feel that the room the shit was recorded in must've been like 110 degrees and smelled faintly of smoke and whisky. there's just some kind of eerie vibe on the whole cd just like when you stumble on some old southern town that looks like it crawled out of 1976 and you really arent sure if its the same country.it's a kind of sense of urgency and meaning but a deep feeling that it's all over already, as if it were the only songs these guys ever wrote and they damn sho felt every note and word. anyway, the way this relates to this shit here is as such; i have always wanted to "out creep" or in other words make the listener feel slightly uncomfortable enough that it might have the train wreck effect. y'know, how everyone knows its brutal and horrible but you cant stop looking. but if you so this too far in a song or entire album it gets stale or it just sucks. so for the first three cd's we have done there were drum machine parts that i programmed (for better or worse) but now there is good ol' james playin skins with me which completly threw the old idea of making crazy drum parts that sound like a lawn mower on acid out the window. now its a matter of going back to a more "normal" (and i use that term loosly) sound and vibe. and it also means going through hell and high water to attempt to cross the line for the better, or in other words outdo the last effort. luckily, it looks like this shits really going to work out well and quite possibly be the strangest assortment of tunes thrown together on one disc in a long damn time. ...well thats enough mis-spelled and grammatically fucked rambling for another bit...
