the ironically two best and worst hallmarks of the holiday season are the busy-ness and expensive-ness of it all. this has, quite possibly, been one of my busiest to date and maybe expensive-iest, although i must admit that most purchases that would have normally fallen under the "impulse buy" or "what's a budget?" categories have been categorized under "christmas and related expenses".
after seeing friends all weekend, an awesome christmas eve vigil at
circle, and an awkward christmas day with family, i headed up to new hampshire to stay with the brother and wife (his, not mine) for a few days. his in-laws flew in today. i haven't seen them in several years, so it was awesome to see them again. i want in-laws like his in-laws when i get married, except i will be sure to have a bigger-than-a-1-bedroom place when they come visit me (i have 3 people snoring within earshot of me right now).
i'm leaving tomorrow and stopping by to see a friend from work and then stopping again to see another friend on my way home.
looking ahead, thursday we're gonna try to throw a mini-game night at my place, saturday is new year's eve and all the madness that comes with that, and i'm sure i will be seeing more friends in between that madness.
i spent ridiculous amounts of money on videogames and music yesterday and today. i will never learn, but oh is it glorious. games purchased include
guitar hero,
metal gear solid 3, and
abe's oddyssey. i've just about finished
we love katamari and have been playing guitar hero pretty much all day. what a fantastic, fantastic game.
my cd purchases included a copy of wilco's new live album and an ethical debate over buying my morning jacket's new album, since it is loaded with the
sony rootkit drm software. my desire for music won though.
i'm already penciling in a recovery day, which i doubt will stay that way.
