tonight we were at a showing of open water. about twenty minutes into the movie, a cricket starts chirping really loudly from the corner. REALLY loudly. if there were zombies in the room, i'm sure even they would have been annoyed.
for those not in the indie film know, open water is a minimalist take on a couple who gets left out at sea after the boat they were scuba diving with leaves without them. think blair witch project with sharks instead of witches. so there are a lot of quiet parts and some parts with people screaming and what not. i could hear the cricket over every part. if you ever want to be not scared and not engrossed in a movie, bring this cricket along. i'm sure he won't charge much for his loud talent.
about fifty minutes into the movie, i was so angry that i got up in search of the cricket in the corner. i found it sitting right next to the exit door, which explains how he had gotten in. i opened the door, scooted him out, and went back to my seat feeling quite proud of my extermination abilities. about ten minutes later, the chirping starts right back up. now i'm really peeved, although i endure the chirping until the end credits. when the lights came up, i went over to the corner to search for the loudmouth's girlfriend that i must have missed. at that moment, i realized that, like an idiot, i had left the door open a crack and that the cricket was chirping from outside. i closed the door and stormed out of the theater.
i talked to the manager to try to get free tickets or something, but after i alerted her to the problem all i got was a "thanks, we'll take care of that tonight." why can't i ever be mad when it will get me free stuff.
