The best part? By the time Mayor Dellums had done the 12th or 13th couple, it was...getting dull. Routine. Like every other JP courthouse wedding. (Except, of course, to the particular participants.)
The hardest part's over, thanks to Massachusetts; the tipping point has been reached. The concept is no longer merely fodder for visual jokes about the unthinkable (big hairy guys in wedding gowns); the reality is everywhere (two boring guys arguing about their taxes in April).
The camel's nose is in the tent. Gradually, the rest of the camel will follow. (And think of all the relieved gay and lesbian couples in the Western United States who don't have to fly all the way to Massachusetts to get a license now!)
At the last Zcon, a Doctor Who/Torchwood fan brought along a copy of the British gossip mag HELLO! -- the issue with the article about John Barrowman's wedding to his partner. Covered just like any other celebrity nuptials.
I'm looking forward to all the Trekkie mags' coverage of George Takei's marriage in September! (George and his partner of 20 years, Brad, were one of the first gay couples in line in Los Angeles to get a license.)

I hope more states continue to allow gay marriage. It's just love and commitment, same as for straight people.
