He sat on the bench outside the smial. The garden bloomed beautifully, in direct contrast to his own fading old age. This time of growth never failed to put a pang in his heart about his loss, so many years ago now. So many years, across so vast a Sea.
His love came outside, dishclout still in hand. As white-haired and frail as he, now, and still as beloved as when both were young and bright.
The arms went around him. "Sam," the tender voice whispered.
Sam squeezed the arm, tears welling up.
"Oh, Frodo, I miss Rosie so much."
