Wow! Another great chapter!

Even at his end, Milverton just does not get it. Instead of regretting his treatment of Jun, he just wishes that he had killed him earlier. Also, he knows Jack well enough to expect mercy (a form of it at any rate) even though he was instrumental in Jack’s capture and torture. At least Milverton goes to his death seeing two people he has harmed have managed to overcome their trials by his hand/actions and with the knowledge that his crew had not acted to save him or avenge him. Good riddance.

It is great to see Jun again. He is becoming a proper Baker now and it was very smart for Captain Shear-Lock to include him in the snare to capture Milverton. I am sure that alone would raise Shear-Lock in Jun’s esteem, never mind the food and overall better conditions aboard the Baker. Of course, the fact that Jun did not take a swipe at Jack with his knife is progress of a kind too. Still, I hope that Jun has not been completely enthralled. It is refreshing to see characters that are not completely lock-step with the rest of the crew and it would be difficult for someone with his background to totally trust anyone.

There is not much to say about One-Hand Jack in this little offering except that he has not changed. He is a hard man and yet still can be merciful. A lesser man would have left Milverton to Jun’s tender ministrations after getting the information he required. The Woman is going to be SO DISAPPOINTED when they finally meet.

“If l’Estrade can get around Angel he’ll deserve the Baker,” the captain replied serenely to his first mate.

Oh, I so want to meet l’Estrade!

Also, it has not gone unnoticed that this is not the first time you have used International Talk Like a Pirate Day to not talk like a pirate. Kudos for the subversion!

As always, I look forward to future entries in this series!

Good to finally get more Baker shenanigans out of dock! Thank God for TLAPD - gave me a deadline (and I wrote this in just over 24 hours, which might account for a few discrepancies here and there which I might fix). In this case the "talk" the pirates indulge in is sign language and dancing-men code which translated as "Shear-Lock and Gold-Hand are gunning for you, Captain, you are so fucked."

I'm very fond of Jun also - and you'll be happy to learn that he remains a mean little bastard even as he becomes a Baker. A pissy cabin-boy with a big knife is also good for keeping the crew alert.

Of course I had to let the two who suffered most because of Milverton - Jun and Jack - strike the first and last blows. I also enjoyed contrasting Jack's refusal to give up Shear-Lock under torture with Milverton turning on Moriarty immediately. (A pirate story is also a great way to show the steely side of Dr. John "never forget I was a soldier" Watson - "Watch closely, kid, this is the RIGHT way to cut a throat.")
