Oh, god. (Spoilers for “The Sign of Three”)

So the episode ends with Sherlock the Great and Powerful cleverly deducing that Mary is pregnant. Before Mary even knows it.
More of that awesome BBC Sherlock Moffatesque misogyny.

Because of COURSE no woman in the history of the world could possibly put together the symptoms of morning sickness, weight gain and tastes changing - especially not a woman who works in a doctor’s office and has clearly been having unprotected sex with her doctor fiance. Only a Man is allowed to understand all the icky intricacies of a woman’s reproductive system. Wow, it was just like watching a pack of old white Congress men from Southern states ranting about birth control and abortion.

And my flesh is crawling at what’s going to happen to Mary in His Last Vow.

I’ve learned a few things from decades of absorbing pop culture. And if there’s one thing misogynistic male writers LOVE, it’s to get women pregnant and then do shitty things to them - mostly to make the men who own them feel bad.

I’m very afraid we’re in for some Emmy-nominated emoting from Martin Freeman. And I know Mary disappears canonically (Doyle’s use of “sad bereavement” in “The Empty House” leaves little wiggle room, but it could have been divorce as well as death) - but to make her such an awesome character for the sole purpose of building up the Bro Manpain is an ugly trick.
