Well, in just about 10 minutes I will need to finish getting ready for my second full shift at Meijer. I was officially hired last week after it took exactly 2 weeks for my background check to come back clean. Waiting is always a pain. After filling in some paperwork, that was it. Yesterday, I started. I work at the Meat and Seafood counter. Despite what a lot of people think, fish doesn't smell fishy...at least when it's fresh and handled properly haha. It was a cool day and I'm still standing. Not really working for 13 months has left me questioning some things like my customer service skills, how I handle for long periods of time on my feet, etc... Fortunately for me, none of that was an issue. I had good conversations with customers, got them some meat and seafood without issue and it was just a good day. Towards the end I went to the back and did some computer work. That always sucks but I got it mostly done. Today I'll finish up the computer stuff and hopefully learn more about the fish and meat. I have to know the fish's country of origin, if it's fresh or sea water fish, how to cook it, etc... There's like 50 fish I need to know about. Luckily, I'm not 100% ignorant on them so it's just dusting up some skills all while learning new. I'm so happy that I have this opportunity to make a career out of Meijer. Let's face it, the only thing I really wanna do with my life is be a writer. I can do that before and after shifts until it takes off. Meijer is union so unless I punch a customer, there aren't many ways I can lose my job. Not to mention the company, each year, has bigger profits than the year before. Great, stable and fun company, Meijer is. I look forward to finishing this week of training, though so I can just get into normal shifts and kick ass doing what I do best...being me!
