Well, that didn't work. Darn. She said that they wouldn't be able to do that for me until after my consult. She said at this point, the only way to get a referral would be to have my pcp or the original testing physician. I never told her there was a testing physician. I feel so like Elaine right now. :(
So, I did write back to her:
Amber,
Do you have a list of good primary care physicians that are known to be accepting of WLS patients pre-op and post op? I have been wanting to switch physicians and would like one that is familiar with WLS.
Thank you again for all your assistance.
So, this is probably a good idea anyway. Clearly Dr. Culver doesn't see many, if any, WLS patients, or she'd have had a scale that would accomodate me and staff who were sensitive to my needs. That sounds so goofy, doesn't it? Be sensitive to me needs. LOL Oy. Well, for once I do need and require some sensitivity.
Thank you, Morganna. Amber wrote back this morning with a list of doctors. She said that Baylor recommends the North Texas Internal Medicine group and gave me 4 doctors' names and a phone number. She also said I could ask for WLS-friendly PCPs on the BaylorWLS yahoo group. It's moderated by the hospital and a very strict email loop. You have to have gone to their seminar to be on it, which is kinda cool. All these people are in almost the exact same boat... so to speak.
So, I will discuss this with Shahram and most-likely go to one of the recommended doctors.... yeah, Amber said I could ask the group about doctors in my area. I don't really want to travel to Dallas every time I have to be seen, but then again, I don't plan to stay in Allen forever, either, so I guess it doesn't really matter. It's only 30 minutes to Baylor. I think the doctor group she listed is part of Baylor. I think that's always good.

That's a very good idea. I'm sorry this part isn't going smoothly.
