hummingbirds

I've had a hummingbird feeder out for the last few years, and frequently see a hummingbird there. In the last week or so, I've seen two different ones, for the first time. Male and a female? Not sure. The hummers are always very skittish around people, and I've never gotten close enough for a good view.

I was outside just now, deadheading. I had just stood up partway. I was bent over at the waist, looking down, when one flew up beside me, paused, then flew beneath me and away down the side of the house. That was pretty cool, but the really surprising thing was that it stopped and fed at my sedum. It's an autumn joy, and it's only just started to bloom. It's only just starting to show color, and very few buds have even begun to open. There aren't even any bees on it. And of course, the individual blossoms are tiny. This was even more surprising than the hummingbird feeding on the coral bells.
