Blackberry bush

Last year my blackberries fruited, I read they only fruit on 2nd year canes and after that, you can prune the cane. Correct?

So how do I tell which ones fruited last year so I can prune those down? I don't want to accidentally hack down too much of it... then again it's getting a little out of control.
