Hello.
Not sure why this is happening, but I have a hemerocallis that is now basically done blooming. It had many, many blooms in June - now. Since then they have all bloomed and died and I deadheaded them. Now, for some reason, the stems are turning brown too... Not sure if that is normal?
I looked around and found a website that said THIS about day lilies: After flowering, they begin to look a bit ratty with browned leaf tips and dead leaves in late summer. Remaining stems dry out. This is normal. Pull out the brown leaves and dried stems.
Pull out the entire stems??? I think I'd pull the entire plant up by the roots if I did that. The leaves at the bottom of the plant are still green and look fine. It's just the stems that have turned yellow/brown.
PS - it is a perennial.
Here's a picture:
Is the turning brown just normal after flowering?
