Designing a zone 5 garden with oldies but goodies!

Hi all! I'm not new but I haven't posted in a long time, so here's a quick hello:
• I garden in Upstate NY, Zone 5
• I love perennials
• I'm constantly rearranging my flower beds :)

Today I am working on a new project! YAY! We just poured a concrete patio and I'm planning the beds around it.

I've got some plants that had to be moved for the construction: Columbine, Iris, Daylily.
And some plants that I have been wanting an excuse to buy: Knockout Roses, Woolly Thyme.

Now I just have to figure out how to put them all together! Will you help? :D
(I'm up for buying a couple more plants too, based on your suggestions.)

Here's a pic of the half finished patio & a picasaweb album link with a diagram and pictures and stuff (just click on the picture).

Thanks!
