This year for my seedlings I'm using some Schulz seed starting mix and those 3" fiber pots (not doing that many seeds this year.) The mix was cheap and isn't wetting down well, anyone have tips for this step? I'm assuming it will just seep back into the fiber pots and then into the dirt. I've only used the Jiffy peat pots before which just love water.
This year I'm doing Mr Stripey and Orange Banana tomatoes, and some generic green peppers and jalapenos. Menards beats Home Depot hands down in the garden section; way more selection and cheaper too. Now I need to hunt down the rest of my seed packets, which I cleverly moved to a 'better' spot than the drawer in the kitchen, but I have no idea where that might be...
Oh yeah! Watermelons! I've been wanting to try planting these for a while now so I got some "Sugar Baby" variety when I ordered my tomato seeds. We have plenty of room, but is it better to have the vines growing onto dirt, or mulch, or let them grow out into the grass/yard? Grass/yard would be the easiest, they can go crazy behind the shed, I just wasn't sure if the grass gets long or if I'd move the vine and mow under it or how that'd work.
