I thought I'd share before and after pictures of my garden area.
Before:
Green everywhere! Grass was even starting to cover up the 10'x15' brick patio. The fence was entirely hidden under several inches of confederate jasmine and creeping virginia. The liriope is huge and along with the palm tree (newly pruned in this picture) makes this area feel cut off from the rest of the yard. This picture was taken shortly before we moved in.
One year later...
*The liriope has been relocated to the sides of the patio area, replacing the overgrown grass.
*The bed where the liriope was has been planted with strawberries, tulips, daylilies, and some other bulbs from our front yard (they never bloomed so it'll be exciting to see what they turn out to be in spring).
*The grass patch in the back was dug up and replaced by three beds which are currently occupied by 1. broccoli/cauliflower, 2. lettuce seeds/soy and long beans/parsley and carrot seeds, 3. lettuce starts.
*The other excess greenery in the back was pruned or dug up. The sago will remain, but the sago pups will be relocated to the front yard along with the two neighboring shrubs in spring.
*The lily (I think it's a lily?) by the fence on the right will also be relocated - when would be the best time to do that? Shortly after the last frost of the year I'm gussing.
*The jasmine suffered in the original purging of excess greenery (especially creeping virinia) and is being encouraged back on the fence, now that we can actually see the fence.
