As Marx once said, "Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana. Proletariat worker flies should control the means of banana production."
I put in a banana tree of the "ice cream" variety into a sunny spot in my back yard last year, and it looks as if the efforts I put into planting have paid off--it survived two prolonged freezes last winter, and now has a couple of pups. I have yet to get around to feeding it this year but I'll probably side dress it with some seabird poop this weekend.
I'm in zone 9, so I see plenty of banana trees, but only seldom do I see bananas on them. How do I get bananas? Would it help to remove the pups?
