My cousin and I are growing garlic for the first time. The other day she asked me, "So have you stopped giving your garlic water yet?" And I said no, because the leaves hadn't turned brown yet. (I'd read somewhere that you're supposed to stop giving water to your garlic about a week before you plan to harvest them.) And she was like, "But they start turning brown after you stop giving them water."
Wha?
I was like, no, they turn brown naturally, and then you know they're about ready to harvest, and THEN you stop giving them water.
But now I'm doubting myself. Is that right, or is she right?? I checked recently and my garlic bulbs are still pretty small, so either way they're not ready for harvesting. But I always thought that one indication of them being ready to harvest would be that the leaves would naturally turn brown, regardless of if I stopped giving them water.
So garlic growers, how DOES it work?
