Carrots:
First I tried making a homemade seed mat using a flour paste. Either very scattered germination or seeds washed away or I weeded seedlings not knowing what they were.
Then I tried making ice cream scoop holes in the soil and planting at the bottom of them.
Hmmm...about the same level of success as my first planting with home made seed mats, in other words very hit or miss. I did just eat my first carrot and meh...not so good. Obviously I have not found the answer.
Someone (? deer) likes the greens though. Many nibbles.
I really need to get a deer fence built...and a ground hog, bunny and ?squirrel? fence.
Pea trellis:
I made horizontal layers of 4 to 6 inch square criss crossed twine to let sugar snap peas grow through. The bed and the finished layers of trellis were 4 by 4 feet. I did repeated layers as the peas grew. Pictures in earlier entries.
It was more difficult to make than I imagined. I would not do it again. All the peas
drifted to one corner. I had trouble keeping up with the additional horizontal layers. It took 2 people to build them. It was difficult to harvest. Fail but fun experiment.
