Hired muscle

This winter I had big plans for my Lottie. Some of them got achieved but not all of them. Of couse, gardening always does involve some things that you plan but don't achieve, but in my case I've had to admit that my disability is worse now than it used to be. And that it's permanent.

I'm remembering how I once helped a farmer friend hand-fork muck into her trailer, a proper full-sized muckspreading trailer. We filled it 9 times that day and she spread it on her fields. 2 smallish women, 2 forks and we did that. Then we scrubbed up and went dancing for the evening. No disability can take from me the fact that I was once that strong.

But I digress. What I'm admitting is that I haven't been able to do much of the heavy work I planned for this winter. What I'm deciding is that hired muscle is the answer. I've never done this before but there are people who offer themselves as jobbing gardeners' assistants. Has anybody here tried using such a muscle-person? How well did it work out for you?

garden method: raised beds, community gardening, location: british isles, disabled gardener, garden diplomacy
