I hope this is allowed. My house, yard and even porch is having a major squirrell or chipmunk problem. It is mainly bothering me now because I just planted a new flower and less than an hour I go outside and the dirt around it has been dug up ( Read more... )

I suppose you could always just plant stuff rodents don't want to eat but that severely limits what you can plant ( ... )

the haveahart traps work if you drive out to the middle of nowhere for release. But you make a point about going 4 blocks away.

No, never do this. This is illegal in most states. If that squirrel is sick, you'll spread diseases to other animal populations elsewhere.

The law in most places is, you trap an animal, you either kill it or release it on your property.

I've trapped and killed a half dozen squirrels that developed a taste for tomatoes, but once the pecans came in, the battle was lost. Still, it can be satisfying. I've spent many mornings on the back porch with a cup of coffee and an air rifle. Death to tree rats!

Thank you. Where can I find an owl nesting box? I might try that since we already have a couple owls around. Plus I don't want to use the poison just because I have a dog. Thanks again :]

Some place do carry the nesting boxes for sale but depending on the species of owl, you will probably have to build or have one built for you.
Google for owl nesting boxes for specifics but most owls will take a big wooden box if it's attached to a tree and has a large opening.
I read about one great horned owl couple that took over a deer stand and used it as a nest base and the burrowing owl of the plains state will take an artificial burrow if it can't find anything else.
