Compost question
I have been trying to compost for the past couple of years with mixed results. Last year I finally got some good looking end-product and used it to top dress my perennial garden. About a week later I noticed that I had a bumper crop of tomato seedlings wherever I put the compost! Any suggestions as to how to prevent this? I went to a composting 101 talk the other day (very, very basic) and they said to get the pile hotter but I have read that it's tough for the home composter to get a pile hot enough to sterilize seeds. My thought was to add worms to the pile because they would take care of the seeds, but no one could verify this at the talk. Do any of you have the same problem, and if you do, how did you fix it?
