Indoor gardening

Everyone here has been very helpful, so of course I have more questions! Does anyone here grow food, herbs, or both inside during the winter? If so, what sort of things did you make or buy to do this, especially if you were able to do this economically? Does anyone do this sort of thing in an unheated garage or unheated part of the house?
