I'm enrolled in a Master Gardener program that's run by our local cooperative extention. I'm doing vermicomposting as my 'outreach' program, which is great because its something I'm interested in and think it's important.
I heard that there's a fast moving invasive moving into the area that I live, so I volunteered to do an 'invasive plant pull' with a group that's involved with Mile a Minute locally.
I just got off the phone with the coordinator and I'm PISSED.
Here I am OFFERING to help this woman pull weeds in the dead heat of summer (it's an annual) and put a display at my information booth (I have some garden fairs lined up for DIY worm bin demos)... and this woman starts BITCHING at me about how worms are invasive and hinting not so indirectly that I shouldn't be doing this as an outreach.
I told her that if there's such a conflict perhaps I best not get involved in promoting mile a minute and her organization.
WTF? Sure the worms that are here are not native to North America, but there's nothing exactly natural about filling landfills with CRAP.
It really makes me wonder why I bother getting involved with causes like this . I mean, the damn red wigglers freeze up here if they get loose, and who else is going to toil that soil???
:(
