Halloween

Rushed home from work in order to be here in time for the littlest wigglers who come to the door in teeny Halloween costumes. They come just as it starts to get dark, and the later it gets the older the kids. I love Halloween in our neighborhood. So many kids came to the door and almost all of them had costumes and almost all of them said thank you and Trick or Treat. It's so cool watching their little bodies wriggling with excitement at the thought of getting candy for free from someone they don't know and it's okay with Mom. Bouncing across the lawn shouting, "Mom, Mom, look what I got!" It was unseasonably warm which made the evening roaming all the more delightful for children and parents. A lovely night.

A co-worker told me today he doesn't give candy. I asked why he was such a Grinch about it. He shrugged and said he didn't like getting up and down so much. Can you imagine? Hard not to think a little bit less of someone who doesn't take an opportunity to delight children, you know? Someone delighted me and mine years ago, now it's our turn to be the grownups in this wonderful life circle.
