Fire in my hotel room in Philly

I'm in Philadelphia for work for 2 1/2 days. You'll think I'm a brat when I say I'm staying at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in the downtown area. Very nice, very elegant. They place lighted candles all over the place in the reception and bar area so even though the area is very large it has an intimate, warm feel.

I came up to my room after dinner and as I unlocked the door I heard something that sounded like crackling flames. Ridiculous, I thought. I opened the door and saw, in the reflection of the mirror in the hallway of the room, flames. The room was on fire! My heart started to beat very fast and my breath quickened as I planned to run from the room. I saw the bed, which had not yet caught fire. You know how you sometimes think of the oddest things at strange moments? I saw the little chocolates on the pillow that housekeeping had left and I thought "Oh, the chocolate hasn't melted yet."

As I turned to dash out into the hallway, my eyes swept the rest of the room. Abruptly I stopped in my tracks. My room was not on fire. The maid had turned the television on to the Fire Channel : ) and it showed a nice cozy fire in a hearth with all the sound effects. It was intended to be soothing.

I sank weakly down onto the bed, unwrapped an unmelted chocolate, and ate it slowly in front of the electronic hearth.
