well, i arrived in chicago last night and got to my hotel around 10:00. i don’t know if i’ve ever stayed at a fairmont or not, but when i came into my room last night, i never wanted to leave! the room is huge, with windows on two sides, a sofa, wall-mounted flat screened tv bigger than the one i have at home, a separate shower (with a rain-shower showerhead), water closet, two vanities, and the windows open. then when i got up this morning, i could see that i have a lake view. seriously. a lake view in chicago. crazy!
i’m here for work, to conduct focus group-type interviews with one or two people at a time. our goal is to get a sense of the challenges facing cancer centers in recruiting and retaining staff, as well as strategies they’re using that seem to work.
the first day of interviews went well - got a lot of good information. now it’s 4:30 and i’m back in my hotel room, finished for the day and i have a bit of a conondrum. well, okay, not really. i already know what i’m going to do. basically, my option is to either troubleshoot the wireless connection (by going down to the business center and probably getting an ethernet cable to circumvent wireless entirely) and then spend the next 3 hours checking email, doing some work, and posting this update to LJ, OR take advantage of the lack of connection and get out of this building. :) what do you think i’m going to do? that’s right. i’m outta here. i’ve never been to chicago and i’ve always wanted to see the city. i have dinner reservations with my supervisor at 8:00, so i’m going to spend the next couple of hours walking around and taking in some of the city. sweet!
i love my life,
