technology and new job

i love technology. admittedly, it’s not always intuitive. and when starting a new job, it’s never easy navigating through the various systems and people to get access to everything you need, but eventually you get there. and when things work, they really work. i find the level to which SAS is organized to be pretty amazing.

and right now, after several frustrating non-starts to download a suite of software from our intranet, i managed to connect with someone who knew how to get me where i needed to be. we chatted over an internal instant messenger so i got real-time feedback and i was able to start the mega download to get most, if not all, the SAS software i need! i’m currently pulling down 50 gigs worth of files. yup, you read that right. 50 GIGS! it’s going to take a while and i’m able to stop the download and resume it where i left off, so if it starts putting a damper on things (i.e., web surfing and game playing tonight), i’ll be able to postpone it until we go to bed tonight. so very cool when things just work! :)

today, i also finished the first of 2 online courses. i’ll start the second one tomorrow. i’m so excited about what the future holds. i can’t wait to get started doing some real work and exploring other parts of SAS i’ve never seen or used before.

sas, i love my life, geeking out, random musings
