day 3 - tuesday
today was so much better than yesterday. roger actually talked to me about pacing myself and though we were busier than usual for a tuesday, when i told him i was going to grab a quick bite to eat and i’d be right back (we were short 1 person today), he told me to take my time, take a break, get rehydrated, cool off.... they all seem to understand that it’s going to take a few weeks for my body to adjust to this new gig. that’s cool. it’s something i didn’t fully understand myself.
today was spent moving more plants from the parking lot (we left some from the trucks yesterday) to their appointed location, arranging plants so that the same cultivars were together and not all over the place, straightening things up, and helping customers. i actually helped a lot of customers today. there was a very old gentlemen who could barely walk there with his daughter and he knew he wanted a lilac, a japanese maple, and a few other plants. so i helped them pick out each of the plants they wanted and brought them up to the register for them. it was so cool helping this man find the prized plants he wanted in his garden. i love that.
i already know a lot more about what we have in stock, what gets sold throughout the day, what we have left.... i’m working in the trees and shrubs department, so that’s what i’m learning about. the perennials are a different department and probably what i know better. so this is definitely a learning experience for me.
