[It's rather late in the evening to be out in the snow, but so Aerith is. Behind ch. 4, out in the forest, she's cleared the fresh-fallen snow from a small patch of earth and is now kneeling down in it, talking to Faeren.]Wasn't it strange back then? Everyone changed so suddenly! ...Were you...a little nervous? Hm... But...people seem to be ( Read more... )

[Aerith wasn't next door when Cloud looked for her, so he's out scouting for the resident flower girl.

...okay she's doing that weird thing she was doing back in the Ancient Temple again.]

Aerith? Can you hear this Planet too?

...No. [She shakes her head, slowly turning back to Cloud.] Not yet. It's a little different here. --Every Planet has a Lifestream, right? That's what Bugenhagen said. But I don't hear one here, not yet. [Not ruling out the existence of a Lifestream yet because that's just...weird, okay. LOOK HOW MANY FLOWERS THERE ARE, OBVIOUSLY THERE SHOULD BE LIFESTREAM AROUND.]

You can't? [That's weird. Maybe there weren't any Cetra on this particular Planet. Of course, the idea of there not BEING a Lifestream is ludicrous. Of course there is, otherwise nothing would be alive.]

Maybe... it takes time to adjust? I don't really know how it'd work. [She looks down for a moment as she thinks, her breath fogging in the air, before she looks at Cloud again.] I'm talking to some of the spirits here. Trying to, at least! Faeren can be shy.

[The-

Oh yeah, they're in the guide. Cloud just kind of skimmed that part, because WHAT? No. Materia does magic, not creepy disembodied voices. He crouches next to Aerith, resting an elbow on his knee.]

Which one is that one?

She's the spirit of the earth and plant life. It's kind of strange that it's a different spirit that heals people, but I guess that's how it is here. I'm going to talk to that one, too.

[There's a tiiiny huff.] Though it'd be really nice if the Malnosso hadn't taken our materia in the first place!

[That's a given. Cloud wants his Knights of the Round.]

Is she like a summon spirit?

Hmm, a little different? [She tilts her head, thinking.] We're not supposed to call on her directly for help in a fight, or anything like that. She teaches how to draw on the magic yourself.

...so she's like materia only a lot less convenient. [Cloud has to wonder if this is how the old Ancients did it though, before materia came along. What a hassle.]

[--Elbow in the side.] Be nice! She can hear you, you know.

[Cloud rubs his side, not all that apologetic but willing to compromise.]

Sorry. [He'd have added "what's-your-face" but he figured that would earn him another elbow.]

[Smart move, Cloud.]

It's not inconvenient once you learn, anyhow. Not like I need anything equipped!

You were always better at magic anyway. [Cloud will stick with materia which is TOTALLY scientific. And logical.]

[And not available, or Aerith would be using it as well. :(] Right. I do the magic, you swing the big sword around. It makes fighting a lot easier.

You say that like swinging the big sword around is a bad thing. It's worked out pretty well for me so far.

Yeah, and just imagine me swinging it around! [Aerith mimes a little figure spinning itself around...and then falling over into the snow.] It's ridiculous for anyone but a SOLDIER to use. Well, even for a SOLDIER...
