art in my apartment

Feb 03, 2011 09:46

simon and i both have friday off and are planning on completely overhauling our apartment so it is in order for my family when they come visit next week (!!!). i've been taking photos before, during, and will (one day...) after our renovations. most of the really intense stuff (taking apart walls, fixing plumbing, changing electricity) is done, but who am i kidding. we still want to do the kitchen which is of course the most labour intensive, disruptive part. but! that will wait until at least this summer, depending on how much it will cost.

but! our bedroom is painted, our walk-in closet is getting there, and now we just need to put the finishing touches: lighting and of course, art. we have a LOT of art. piles of it. i took photos of most of the art we had up around the apartment, but there are literally piles more where that came from.

without further ado, here are some photos of the art in our apartment, from august before we started renovating.

ta-dam!

so.

today i'm going to go thrifting. looking for:
  • lamps
  • a ladder with as many rungs as possible
  • wooden hangers
  • glass jars
  • hat boxes
  • mirrors...

like these things:

beautiful gooseneck lamp

what are these lamps called? they are so perfect! exactly what we want/need for bedroom reading. we always knock over our lamp...

and we REALLY want to make these:

i think for our patio? so that will wait until the summer.

and i think this is the last piece of furniture we are looking for:

the person at our favourite (reasonably priced) antique store told us it's probably an old library/bookstore case but it doesn't need to be exactly like that... we saw this one but with my big feet we're not sure the shelves are big enough, plus it was $350 or something.

also i'm participating in fa(t)shion february, trying to get into the habit of daily outfit photos again. i'm uploading them on flickr and posting them on my tumblr if you're interested. i'll post them all here when the month is over.
