part of my goals lately have been to take myself more seriously in every aspect of my life.

i am applying to this:

The inaugural GuatePhoto (July 6 - 31, 2010) will celebrate both contemporary photography and a panoramic overview of photography in the Guatemalan scene. The goal is to document contemporary photography, to promote local talent and deliver the international community with an opportunity to exchange ideas and new trends in photography.

they are accepting two applicants from québec so i am applying. so i have been overthinking every single detail about it. this is the open call in english to give you a better idea.



my strength, i think, is in the fact that the photos are not necessarily professional in style. i am my subject. i am limited by my crappy point and shoot and funds (i would take more film if i could only afford to). a lot of my photos are low-res and very web-based (in terms of the fact that i take many photos for the sole purpose of sharing them with the internet) and this should be my strength, not my weakness.

for the past year i've been really theorizing around the idea of the digital camera as a mirror. i've been using my digital camera to document my clothing and my moods for the past five years in a very interactive way with the internet. but mirrors themselves are quite present literally as well. these are ideas i need to flesh out more articulately and concisely, but it's the theme i think i might run with as it is, in my opinion, the strongest one that emerges from my photos.

so i would really appreciate your opinions! here are a dozen or so photos:

SO WHAT I NEED FROM YOU:
1) how many should i submit? it says 5 to 15. should i do 5 really strong ones, or more to show more variety and scope?
2) WHICH should i submit?
3) should i stick to one medium? (i.e. all digital, no polaroids or film)
4) do you think this is a good idea or should i do something different? windows/doors as frames? sartorial documentation? blurriness? vintage influences? film stills idea (which has been done by many others, though) or any other theme?
