Anthropology

101: Intro to Anthropology. Open to all HS students and 9th graders, younger than that with counselor/teacher permission. An overview of anthropology and its basic questions: "What defines Homo sapiens?", "Who are the ancestors of modern Homo sapiens?", "What are humans' physical traits?", "How do humans behave?", "Why are there variations and differences among different groups of humans?", "How has the evolutionary past of Homo sapiens influenced its social organization and culture?", etc.

105: Modern Anthropology. Open to HS students (and middle schoolers with permission) who have taken 101. A course that focuses on modern cultures and societies around the world, as well as the modern state of the science.

203: Age of Mythology. Open to all HS. An overview of many cultures around the world and their formative states and early mythology - creation myths, population myths, and the evolution of those over time. Looking at cultures from the cradle of civilization in Mesopotamia to southern and eastern Asia, to Africa, the Americas and the Mediterranean. (Also counts as a History course).

305: Anthropological Archeology. Open to HS2 and HS3, HS1 with permission. An introduction to archaeology - techniques, the history of the field, classic cases, terminology, and its practical use in the study of societies past and present.
