Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Countdown: 16 days until I leave the country. Yikes!

Went to Jalapeno's Taqueria last night. I highly recommend the rice pudding and the flan.

Saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the night before.
I liked it.
And it wasn't even that scary. Although I still wouldn't let a small child see it.
I still have that lasting fear of the Oompa Loompas.
When I was in first grade, they rounded us up and brought us into a big room with a TV where we sat on the floor and watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the 60's version starring Gene Wilder. And it was really scary. I didn't know anything about the movie but I became alarmed when children started getting picked off one by one. But I knew it was just a movie-- what was more alarming was that our teachers would make us watch such a thing. I literally thought, "this is not appropriate... it's too scary!" The teachers gave us chocolate later but that didn't make up for it.

In the new movie the Oompa Loompas are all played by the same guy, Mr. Soggybottom from Big Fish. And instead of singing creepy little songs with the words animated on the screen, they did full on dance numbers. It was just enough of a non-sequitur to be my kind of weird.
