Hey! I made it to Seoul. I am sitting in a tiny basement internet nook, which at 11am on a Thursday is nearly deserted. This city is nice!
The flight over was fine, tho I noticed we flew in a large detour around North Korea, and due to the partly-cloudy skies, it looked EXACTLY like it does on google maps: a solid blurry grey with no proof that there is land. That only took one hour tho, as opposed to the other 13 hours spent crossing Canada, Alaska, the Arctic Sea, Russia, and China. All in full sun! I got to see pack ice and Russian mountains dusted with snow. Flying over the border into China was great - even from 7 miles up I could see the difference in agriculture and architectural styles.
And now I am here! My lovely host met me at the subway after work. I got there a whole hour early, all proud of myself for figuring out the (admittedly simple) subway system, and it only took me an extra hour after she was supposed to be there to figure out that the last bit of her instructions was specifying which stairwell to take to LEAVE the station to find her. I hadn't slept (or eaten) in waaaay too long, so that could have been much worse than 1 hour, but it wasn't because we are cool.
She brought me to food (traditional bibimbap), then to her apartment to change and dump my luggage (!!!), and then dancing! For like an hour, until I was sufficiently active to guarantee my falling over as soon as we got back to her room, despite it being noon back home. Gonna beat this jetlag bloody with a spiky stick!! Now just pass the caffeine, will you?
Goals for today: find a bookstore to buy a small blank travel journal, take some pictures, and wander a museum or something until M gets out of work. Then more food and dancing! And then tomorrow to Pohang. :D
