Sometimes when I get sad, I go surf Wikipedia and read the
ridiculously defensive responses Eli Roth has to any criticism of his movies ever. That's always good for making me laugh until I cry. (I kind of imagine
this every time.)
It's unfortunate, because in the sense that he runs around going, 'you know what? fuck the hierarchy of genres,' he's kind of a man after my own heart, but it's like he takes a ridiculous leap of logic in there somewhere, something like:
Premise 1: Works in a "low" genre can still be capital-A Art.
Premise 2: The films I make are in a "low" genre.
Conclusion: ∴ All my films are capital-A Art. And also no one can criticize me. Ever.
Then again, about half the time I'm pretty sure he's trolling, anyway.
My point here is that this really shouldn't make me like him more, but it does. Oh, he's such a tool.
